Why hygiene matters

A toothbrush cannot reach everything

Even with thorough brushing there are places you cannot reach at home. That is where tartar, gum inflammation and early decay start — usually painlessly, so you have no idea for a long time.

Inflamed, bleeding gums

Plaque below the gum line irritates the tissue. Untreated inflammation turns into periodontitis, where bone recedes and teeth become loose.

Decay between the teeth

It usually starts in the interdental spaces. On a clean tooth we catch it early — a small filling is enough instead of root canal treatment.

Stains and bad breath

Coffee, tea, wine and smoking leave pigment behind. AirFlow removes it and your teeth return to their natural shade.

How the visit goes

What to expect

1

Examination of gums and teeth

We measure the depth of the gum pockets, check your fillings and find the spots that are hard to clean at home.

2

Tartar removal

With ultrasound and hand instruments, above and below the gum line — under optical magnification so nothing is missed.

3

AirFlow

A jet of fine powder and water removes stains and soft plaque even where an instrument cannot reach. We choose the powder according to the state of your gums.

4

Polishing and fluoride

A smooth surface collects plaque far more slowly. Fluoride varnish strengthens the teeth and reduces sensitivity after the treatment.

5

Technique tailored to you

We show you on your own teeth how to hold the brush and what to use between the teeth. You get specific product recommendations, not general advice.

6

A plan for the next visit

We agree on an interval that makes sense for you — usually six months, sooner with braces or periodontitis.

Our equipment

Equipment that makes the difference

Hygiene is not only about skilled hands — the instruments and materials matter just as much.

NSK Varios Combi 2

Top-tier ultrasound

We work with the top-tier NSK Varios Combi 2. Ultrasound loosens tartar without scratching the enamel and the power is adjusted to the sensitivity of your gums. Hand instruments finish the places the device cannot reach.

Certified powders

Gentle AirFlow

We use certified fine powders only — harmless to the enamel and non-traumatic to the soft tissue. The jet of powder, water and air removes stains and soft plaque from grooves and interdental spaces.

Carl Zeiss

Optical magnification

We work with Carl Zeiss optics. Magnification reveals small deposits under the gum line and early decay between the teeth — exactly what the naked eye misses.

What happens if you keep putting it off

The difference after five years

Without regular hygiene

  • tartar hardens below the gum line
  • gums bleed and recede
  • decay between the teeth is found late
  • a root canal or a crown replaces a simple filling
  • costs run into tens of thousands of crowns

With hygiene twice a year

  • tartar has no time to build up
  • gums stay pink and do not bleed
  • early decay is caught in time
  • treatment stays small and inexpensive
  • roughly 2,800–3,700 CZK a year, part of it refunded by your insurer
For parents

A first hygiene visit children are not afraid of

We take children slowly and explain everything in advance — we stain the plaque so the child can see what the brushing misses, and we practise a technique they can manage on their own. Parents get concrete advice on what to supervise at home, which brush to choose and what to use between the teeth.

Frequently asked questions

What patients ask

Does dental hygiene hurt?

Usually not at all. Ultrasound and AirFlow are gentle and we work under magnification, so we avoid sensitive spots. If your gums are inflamed or receding we can apply a numbing gel beforehand — just ask.

How often should I come?

Twice a year is enough for most adults. With periodontitis, braces or implants we recommend a shorter interval — usually every three to four months.

How long does it take?

First and regular hygiene take 45–60 minutes, children's hygiene 30–45. The first visit is longer because of the gum examination and brushing practice.

My gums bleed — should I wait?

No, quite the opposite. Bleeding is a sign of gum inflammation and that is exactly what hygiene treats. After a few days of correct brushing the bleeding usually stops.

Will hygiene whiten my teeth?

Hygiene removes stains from coffee, tea or smoking and returns your teeth to their natural shade. If you want to go several shades lighter, we follow up with Pure Whitening bleaching — hygiene is a prerequisite for it.

Can I come during pregnancy or with braces?

Yes. We regularly treat pregnant patients and patients with braces — in both cases gum care matters even more than usual.

Does AirFlow damage the enamel?

No. We use certified fine powders only — harmless to the enamel and non-traumatic to the soft tissue. The powder type and pressure are chosen according to the state of your gums.

Will my insurer contribute?

Most Czech health insurers contribute towards dental hygiene through their prevention programmes. You will find the calculator on this page — and our reception will gladly help you apply.
